Happy 50th Birthday, LEGO!


yesterday was LEGO's 50th Birthday.. WOW!

i love playing LEGO since i was a kid..
while all the little gals were playing Barbie or dolls, my sis & i were "fighting" for our LEGOs! haha!

Google changed its logo yesterday to celebrate LEGO's birthday!
it turns out that Google has a special fondness in LEGOs too, & see how they made their logo!

12 Days Greek Isles Cruise - Day 5 Katakolon (Olympia)

Date: November 13, 2007 (Tuesday)
Place: Katakolon (Olympia), Greece (卡塔科隆/奧林匹克, 希臘)
Day 5
Katakalon is a small village town.. we took a walk in town in the morning.. it's just along the shore.. it was a relaxing day, as there wasn't much to do in town..


we joined the excursion in the afternoon.. it's visiting the Olympia Archelogical Site, "Travel to Olympia & explore the site where the Olympic Games began"..

this was the "Temple of Zeus", it served as the home of one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the gold & ivory statue of Zeus by the sculptor Phedias..


this was "The Stadium", where more than 40,000 spectators could fill the stadium to witness contests ranging from foot races to the pentathlon..

below were places which got damaged by the fire in Katakolon, Greece.. it's fortunate that the fire didn't burn down the Olympia's ruins & the historical sites.. just a bit of the surrounding..

we spent the rest of the day watching movies in our cabin..
there were many different movies (pretty new ones) showing on TV in Princess Cruises (at least 4 different movies every day, replaying throughout the day).. which is one of the highlights of our trip! it seems like we have watched more movies than we could have normally watched in a year!

..both were just so-so..

we went there for dinner on a Saturday night & since we had 6 ppl, we could try more food this time.. we first ordered a 沙爹雞肉石窩飯 as it took a bit longer to make.. D&E kept saying that they wanna buy a stone pot, so that they can make their own 石窩飯!! (P.S. this one was good & hot too!)

we also ordered some appetizers..
Vietnamese Spring Roll (2 pcs) 越式春卷

Deep fry spicy soft shell crabs (2 pcs) 泰辣軟殼蟹
..this one was good.. it tasted different than what we used to have in other restaurants.. it has a little spicy flavor! very special..

Fried Viet Glass Noodle with Shrimp Sauce 越式蝦子醬炒美拖粉

Stir Fried Minced Oyster Rice with Shrimp Sauce 香茅蝦米蠔鬆炒飯
..it's a bit too much "香茅" making the dish quite salty..

Braised Bean curd & Salted Fish in Hot Pot 咸魚豆腐煲
..can't remember if it's with Chicken too.. OOPS!

DD got a coupon for a free dish.. & this was the Pork Cutlet.. very big in portion..

we spotted this special from the newspaper, $49.8 per person for Buffet @ Grand Chinese Cuisine.. we had dinner there once for our aunt & uncle's anniversary celebration & the food was great.. & it seems like a good deal, as each will be given one order of shark's fin (魚翅), roasted suckling pig (乳豬條), & half dozen of oysters (east coast & west coast).. with $2 extra, you could have unlimited oysters, 即叫即開..

when we were first seated, there was a covered plate on the table for each of us.. & then the server said it's a complimentary Fish Fillet Salad for us to enjoy.. & shortly after, the server brought each of us a half dozen of oysters..

there was a special wine & drink list for the buffet..LG chose to have Fetzer-Zinfandal 05 (California).. it said to be 與中菜之完美配搭.. LG said it's just so-so.. & there was another "Honorable Recommendation".. it's Rose Nectar 純天然玫瑰花蜜甘露.. we were given a small cup for sampling.. & it tasted sweet.. i was thinking of ordering one.. but worried that it would be too sweet for the meal.. so we ordered tea instead..

here came the highlight:
原盅燉雞包翅
..very rich in ingredients..

即烤脆皮乳豬條
..crispy as said..

鮮開東西岸生蠔
..fresh & yummy.. these ones were from East Coast..

below were from West Coast.. Fanny Bay Oysters.. very creamy..

there was an order sheet on each table.. just like those used in a dim sum restaurant.. if u wanna order that food, just put in the quantity & the server will come by & pick it up.. we didn't try all food as the portion was quite big.. so we just tried the following:
(left) 酥炸生蠔 ..i like this one.. it's not very "oily"..
(right) 蒜豉蒸殼蠔 ..this one didn't taste good.. we believe that they "re-use" the oyster shells.. but that's not the main concern.. dunno y the soy sauce didn't match with the oysters..

(left) 蜜餞金蠔 ..it's not the usual honey sauce, they used marmalade (果醬) instead..
(right) 京葱爆羊肉 ..the lamb was good..

(left) 脆脆咕嚕肉 2 串 ..this one was good..
(right) 金勾浸菜苗 ..good, with big dried shrimps (蝦米)..

菊花五蛇羹
..LG & i both love this snake soup (dunno how it called in english =P).. feel so warm..

there were some food stations which we could go out & get the food ourselves:

both of us were EXTREMELY full after the dinner.. but most of the dishes were very good.. those chinese dishes were in good quality.. & those oysters were really 即叫即開.. i guess we had ~3 dozens of oysters! WOW!
