per kareshi's suggestion, we went to try out Gal Sushi in Richmond Hill.. it's a small cozy restaurant.. not much fancy decor.. unlike the one in Markham.. they don't seem to have Korean food on the menu.. & we were given soup, salad, & the appetizers: Korean Cold Vermicelli & Tofu..
we ordered a Sil Boat ($55), which has more than it stated on the menu..
according to the menu, there should be 20 pcs of Assorted Sashimi, 18 pcs of Sushi (Uni, Unagi, Hamachi, Tuna, Salmon), 18 pcs of Roll (California, Unagi & Dynamite).. but as u can see from the below picture, we actually had 24 pcs of Sashimi (with Amaebi & Kazunoko: Herring Roe), 20 pcs of Sushi, & 18 pcs of Roll (Crabmeat salad instead of California Roll).. LG said the sashimi tasted better than those in the other Gal..
we also had a Spider Roll, & a Hamachi Neki Roll..
as Z&A said, they always order take-out from this restaurant.. we usually will order take-out from the Ichiban at Times Square, but i guess we can give this a try next time..

Yes, GAL is always my first choice of takeout and jap food in York Region.. the downside of the RH GAL is that it's small and probably not the best place to sit. The food, however, is definitely better value than the Markham GAL.
GAL at Richmond Hill used to be very good. However, I haven't been to there since they started pre-slicing the fish. I hope that the new GAL at Markham don't do that.
I really like Gal sushi, there is another one on Leslie and Hwy 7. I think they are the same owners. There lunch specials are a great price :)
I enjoy reading your post, it's great to have a source that has a bit of everything different, as to where to eat.

There's never been any GAL sushi at Leslie & HWY7 plaza.. the only one over there is not half as good as gal...
BM, the another Gal's Sushi should be on Hwy 7 & Warden (southwest crn nearby the HSBC building). For Jap restaurant on Hwy7, I prefer Sapporo (in 黃金商場, next to HSBC), the sashimi are fresh and tasty.

i've been to the Warden's GAL several times; but it's not as good as the one in 黃金..

We recently tried takeout from Gal only because Sapporo was closed (an hour earlier than posted closing time). We both became violently ill and will never return to this establishment.

i haven't been to GAL lately so didn't know if the quality changes or not..

thought i'd chime in, as i've been going to the RH gal for years...
the original owner of Gal (before there was one in markham) sold it years ago. then a few years later, she opened the one in markham and still tells customers that she owns the RH one (which is not true).
the Gal sushi in Markham is completely different than the one in RH (different owners, and as far as i can tell the suppliers are different too)
i have eaten at both, and to me the one in RH consistently has the better fish quality (but no korean food, which is fine by me, i want to eat good fish! lol)
i do eat at both, depending on where i am at the time. but Gal in Richmond Hill is definitely not the same as in Markham, cos it's different people owning/running them.
