12 Days Greek Isles Cruise - Day 4 Corfu

Date: November 12, 2007 (Monday)
Place: Corfu, Greece (科孚, 希臘)
Day 4
when i did the research online, many people said it's very easy to drive around in Corfu.. & that's why we booked the rental car in advance with Corfu Sunrise.. it's 35 euros which seemed reasonable.. but it was raining when we arrived.. & we started worrying about the traffic..

here's the car that we rented..

our ship docked in the New Port of Corfu.. after we picked up the key & the map, we soon found out that it was a manual car.. luckily that LG knows how to drive manual.. otherwise, we'll be in big trouble!

we first went to Paeleokastritsa, which is like a suburban area.. less traffic.. it was ~ 30-45 mins drive & the drive was not bad..

however, there were not much to see there.. they should have a cave boat tour there, but i guess it's really low season & nobody's there.. we headed back out to town after taking couple pictures..

we then drove to the Achillion Palace.. it was built between the years 1890-1892 as a summer palace for "Sissy", Empress Elizabeth of Austria..

a painting of baby Jesus & Mary inside a small chapel.. it's on the right of the main entrance of the building.. it was said to be the place where Princess Sissy prayed..

we drove back to the Corfu Town around noon.. & the traffic was terrible! i was puzzled when i looked at the map which was in English, while the road signs were in Greek! we were so lost at that time & just kept going.. luckily that we finally found our way back to the New Port.. & then we decided to walk along the shore & look around the town..
